Background:
The school existed in Salhouse in 1839, composed of one room 14ft square andaccommodating 60 children. Following an Act of Parliament in 1841 for the Conveyance and Endowment of Sites for Schools, a new school was officially opened in Lower Street, Salhouse in 1844. The school known today as The Old School consisted of one classroom for 81 boys and girls and a residence for the Master under the same roof. In 1873 the school enlarged and the schoolmaster's house was converted into another classroom.
