Background:

Existing school building since 1913. The school is popular amnd thriving with a very good Ofsted report. We have a strong tradition for environmental teaching, have won environmental awards and children's letters have appeared in a government recycling report. The headteacher has a national reputation for drama in education and this has given many unusual opportunities for children to feature with their work in NATE and National Drama Magazines and the children have been involved in writing for radio, as the head is a scriptwriter and consultant. The school has a very strong team of teachers and we have a well established reputation for our excellent teaching of children with SEN. We work in very difficult accommodation conditions with 100% mobile classrooms, although we have a main building with a hall and library. The children have done much to improve their own grounds (pond, birdboxes, wildlife area, bulb planting, hedge planting). We have also done very well in sporting activities. We buy in specialist teachers at different times for athletics, and we use artists in schools, storytellers, authors, illustrators, etc. We have also worked with multicultural arts teams at times. We involve ourselves regularly in various fund-raising for charity events. Recently we created gift boxes to send to war-torn countries for children at Christmas. Each Christmas we support a night shelter locally with food and money. We are collecting books to ship to a school in Africa (Malawi), with which we now have a link. We have an active and effective governing body with some excellent governors. We have a variety of community links, inviting villages to Christmas performances and holding our harvest festival at the church, to which all are welcome.
