Background:

The main school building was opened in 1955, and a further building was opened in 1963 for Key Stage 1 pupils. About three quarters of the pupils at Marham come from the nearby airbase and there is a high turnover of pupils throughout the year because of parental postings with the RAF. During each year about one third of pupils move in or out of the school. The remainder of pupils are drawn from the village community of Marham. There is an above average proportion of pupils with special educational needs. Facilities include a 'large' playing field, a science room, an 'extensive' library and an information and communications technology (ICT) suite. Work is 'active' and sometimes cross-curricular, and is taught either in classes, groups or individually, depending on individual needs. Pupils in Year 7 learn French. A 'broad and balanced' sporting curriculum is also offered. The school maintains charitable links with the East Anglia Children's Hospice and regularly sends them donations, while representatives from the hospice also visit the school and talk to pupils. The school believes that it is 'of paramount importance that the children receive their education within a school environment which radiates enjoyment and fulfilment'.
